WA Police Dogs No Longer Being Trained to Detect Marijuana

n a move that restores faith in the legislative process, police dogs with the Washington State Patrol are no longer being trained to detect marijuana – now legal among adults in the state after the passage of I-502 during the 2012 elections. ”It’s problematic because the dogs could alert on a legal amount of marijuana,” Bob Calkins, spokesman for the WSP explained. “And then we’re violating someone’s privacy.” While the sentiment may be more CYA than power-to-the-people, the move is still bold and still reflects the democratic process actually yielding results.
